Who Can Be Claimed as a “Qualifying Child”


All four of these requirements must be met to be able to claim a qualifying child:


(1) a child (legal or biological) that is (a) UNDER 19 years old at the end of the tax year,  (b) UNDER 24 years old at the end of the tax year or (c) permanently and totally disabled;
(2) the taxpayer claiming the dependent provided AT LEAST half the financial support for the tax year;

(3) the dependent is not filing or listed on anther income tax form, except to gain a refund; and
(4) the dependent lived OVER half of the tax year with the claiming taxpayer.
